Yonatan Adler OneFamily Day Camp Takes the Knesset!

The annual Yonatan Adler OneFamily day camp for 55 bereaved children aged 5-13, offered an array of fun activities and healing, giving parents a brief respite during the long summer vacation.

From art therapy, arts and craft and sports at the OneFamily Jerusalem headquarters, the young campers also visited the jamboree at the old Jerusalem Train station.

One of the highlights of the week was a visit to the Knesset where they met parliamentarian and Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely. She explained to the children about the parliament and how the government works and took time to answer their questions. Knesset member Orit Farkash-Hacohen whose daughter is a counsellor at OneFamily, also met with the children. The campers were then treated to a tour of the building, where they learned about the voting procedure and also enjoyed standing on the podium and taking selfies!

On the last day of the summer camp, the children were joined by 16 OneFamily orphans and spent a day together visiting at the Jerusalem Biblical Zoo.

In 2018, the day camp was renamed and dedicated in memory of Yonatan Adler, a former OneFamily counselor who was a committed and passionate staff member and was tragically killed in a hiking accident in Georgia in July 2017, just days before he was to have served as head counselor of the day camp.
